The University of Saint Mary's department of fine arts-music will present its annual Winter Student Recital at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday. The recital will be in the university's Walnut Room, on the second floor of Mead Hall. The recital is free and open to the public. The program features several excerpts from Handel's "Messiah," including arias performed by two Leavenworth area mezzo-sopranos, senior Stephanie Balock and junior Whitney Jaster. The recital will also include staged duets from Mozart's "Don Giovanni" and Gilbert & Sullivan's "The Mikado" and "Ruddigore." The Winter Student Recital is a prelude to a public performance slated for March, which will feature a complete opera performance.
