The Basehor Fourth of July celebration and fireworks show, organized by Basehor PRIDE, will take place beginning at 6 p.m. Monday, July 4, at Basehor-Linwood High School, 155th Street and Parallel Road.
The offerings will include a fireworks show, live music from The Fairmounters, the presentation of the Basehor Chamber of Commerce's Outstanding Citizen Award and a color guard giving a 21-gun salute.
The traditional parade will not be held this year, PRIDE president Chuck Wilderson said, because participation and attendance at the parade had been low the last two years. He said it could return for future years' celebrations.
The schedule of events is below:
6 p.m.: VFW Post 11499 begins selling food and drinks
6:30-8:30 p.m.: Live music from The Fairmounters
8:30 p.m.: Outstanding Citizen Award presentation
9 p.m.: Color guard with 21-gun salute, followed by National Anthem
9:15 p.m.: Fireworks display
Other attractions will include a dunk tank and a moonwalk.
Admission is free, though organizers will accept donations to help fund next year's celebration. In addition to Basehor PRIDE and Gold PRIDE, the event is sponsored by the city of Basehor, Citizens Savings and Loan, Community National Bank, First State Bank and Trust, the Basehor Chamber of Commerce, the Basehor Lions Club and the VFW Post.
The rainout date for the event will be Saturday, July 9.
