Commission negotiates privitization of infirmary

The Leavenworth County infirmary that has drawn taxpayer criticism in the past is on its way to being privatized by a Johnson County business. On Thursday, Oct. 4, the Leavenworth County Commission agreed to enter into negotiations with Citadel Holdings, a private corporation in Overland Park, for the rights to operate the Leavenworth County infirmary.

Two years ago, Basehor-Linwood walked into their final game of the season out of contention and looking to spoil things for Piper. The Bobcats upset the Pirates and ruined their chances to advance to state. This year, Piper comes into Basehor in that same role, but the Bobcats are determined to prevent the same thing from happening to them. “Two years ago they were in our position and we knocked them off,” quarterback Nick Verbenec said. “We know it can happen so we just have to have a great week of practice and work hard to make sure that it doesn’t.”

A national theater company will be hosting open auditions for area students interested in participating in a production of a classic play. On Nov. 10, the Missoula Children’s Theatre, a traveling theater company, will perform “Red Riding Hood” at Basehor-Linwood High School. The theater group will host two showings of the play that day, one at 3 p.m. and the other at 7 p.m.
