District schedules enrollment date
Summer's over, students.
Enrollment in the Basehor-Linwood School District is scheduled for Aug. 5 and 6 for kindergarten students through 12th grade students. Enrollment will run from 12 p.m. to 8 p.m.
Parents enrolling their students will enroll them at their child's school, school officials said.
Enrollment fees will be slightly higher this year than in previous years, school officials said.
School officials said it's $30 for kindergarten students and $50 for all other students.
This year also marks the return of a special activity fee for students entering sports, clubs or other school-related activities.
"(The activity fee) is for any kind of activity that's associated with the activities association," said Don Swartz, Basehor-Linwood School District director of operations.
The fee will be $25 per student per activity, school officials said.
The school district has had a pay-for-play plan in previous years.
"For two years or so we had a participation fee for both the high school and the middle school," he said.
However, budget restrictions have forced the school district to re-implement the participation fees. The other alternative would have been to cut activities or programs, school officials said.
"We didn't want to cut activities," Swartz said. "It's a way for us to keep our head above ground."
During the enrollment period, school officials will be offering physical examinations for students entering sports. The date scheduled for the examinations is Aug. 6 and will cost $15 per student.
All of the examinations will take place at Basehor-Linwood High School.
