Fourth of July celebration needs more volunteers
Planning and organizing a parade and fireworks display for the Fourth of July isn't an easy task, especially when you're shorthanded.
But that's exactly what members of Basehor Pride and Gold Pride face this year when organizing the annual celebration.
Chuck Wilderson, Basehor Gold Pride president, said the organization needs additional volunteers to work at the celebration.
"It's an opportunity to show patriotism and support for the community," Wilderson said.
Anyone interested in volunteering for the event should contact Wilderson at (913) 724-1057, or Cindy Bartko at (913) 724-7445.
The Fourth of July celebration is scheduled to kickoff with a parade at 6:30 p.m. The parade route will start at 155th Street and Leavenworth Road and run to Basehor-Linwood High School.
Entries must meet before the parade, 6 p.m., at the Holy Angels Church parking lot, Wilderson said.
This year's parade theme will be "United We Stand Let's Roll."
Cash prizes will be given out to entries that best exemplify the parade's theme.
Wilderson said the parades' grand marshal had not yet been chosen.
Following the parade, a host of activities will be offered at BLHS, including a cake walk, dunk tank and the announcement of the Basehor Citizen of the Year.
A fireworks display will start at approximately 9:30 p.m. after the National Anthem, Wilderson said.
