Obit: Hazel Leola Leonard
Services for Hazel Leola Leonard, 92, Tonganoxie, were June 27 at the First Baptist Church in Basehor. Burial was in White Chapel Cemetary, Gladstone, Mo.
Mrs. Leonard died Monday, June 24, at Tonganoxie Nursing Center.
She was born Hazel Leola Brown on Feb. 13, 1910 to William and Emma (Reeves) Brown in Cedar County, Mo. She worked during World War II at Bishop Furniture, returning to be a full-time wife and mother after the war, and later working beside her husband on their farm near Gallatin, Mo. She moved to Kansas City, Mo., with her husband in 1976, then to Basehor in 1989 after his death and the death of her daughter, Lee Ann. Hazel was an ambassador for the Lord at First Baptist Church of Basehor, and loved being with her church family.
Mrs. Leonard was preceded in death by her husband Harry L. Leonard in 1980, a daughter Lee Ann Goodpasture in 1989, as well as her parents, two sisters Pearl Matraia, Beulah Bowman, four brothers; Glen, Harry, Gene, and Delbert Brown.
Survivors include her daughter, Ethleen Shiflett and her husband Bill of Kansas City, Mo., a son Ed Leonard and wife Mary of Basehor, a son-in-law Lee Allen Goodpasture of Plattsburg, Mo.; five granddaughters, Linda Kistner, Mary Ann Monahan, Shauna Carson, Stephanie Leonard, Heather Frank; and six great-grandchildren.
The family suggests memorials to the First Baptist Church of Basehor.
