Benefit raises $9,100 for beauty shop owner
A benefit/auction for a Basehor woman that lost her business in a Dec. 15 fire reportedly raised more than $9,100.
The benefit/auction was Sunday, March 3 at the Whatever Bar and Grill on Kansas Highway 7.
Basehor resident Pat Wilson lost her business, Pat's Shampoo and Beauty Hut, during a fire in the Basehor shopping center at 155th Street and State Avenue that housed Wilson's salon.
Wilson had owned the business for 18 years.
The loss of her business put a financial strain on Wilson and her family because the business had liability coverage only.
The money raised at the benefit/auction was given to Wilson on Sunday and will be used for building a new salon in the garage of Wilson's home.
Local residents and friends of Wilson organized the event and several local businesses participated as well.
Christa Cunningham, one of the event organizers, said she was happy to donate her time to help Wilson.
"Pat is a really good friend and a really good person," Cunningham said. "She didn't deserve (losing her business) to happen to her. We were all glad to help."
