Four killed in wreck north of Leavenworth
Two-year old girl loses parents, older sister in accident
A 2-year old Easton girl was the sole survivor of a wreck that killed her parents, older sister and the driver of a second vehicle this week in Leavenworth County.
The wreck occurred Thursday, Nov. 7, on U.S. Highway 73, approximately three miles north of Leavenworth. The accident occurred at approximately 4:20 p.m., police said.
Leavenworth County Sheriff's Department Maj. Dave Zoellner said alcohol is not believed to be a factor in the wreck.
According to the sheriff's department, Brigitta Averill, 24, Atchison, was heading north on the highway, driving in an "aggressive manner."
She lost control of the vehicle, crossed the center line and collided with a second car heading south.
Averill was pronounced dead at the scene, the sheriff's department said.
The Harris family, of Easton, was traveling in the second car.
Jason Harris was flown to Kansas University Medical Center, where he later died. His wife, Victoria, and 4-year -old daughter Delana died at the scene.
The second child, Danielle, was extricated from the vehicle and flown to Children's Mercy Hospital. She was treated and later released to her grandparents, police said.
The wreck is still under investigation, police said.
