Supercenter opens doors next week in Bonner
More than a year after construction began on the project, the official grand opening of the city's new Wal-Mart Supercenter is only days away.
Store officials will host a special ribbon-cutting ceremony at 7:30 a.m. Wednesday, Oct. 30, to mark the completion of the multi-million dollar project. The Supercenter opens its doors to its first customers at 8 a.m. that day.
"(I think people will be impressed) by the variety of merchandise they'll be able to get now that they weren't able to get before," store manager Tracie Randall said.
The new Wal-Mart Supercenter is at 12801 Kansas Ave., near Bonner Springs Ford. It is located just across Kansas Highway 7 from Wal-Mart's current store, which will close once the Supercenter is open.
The Supercenter, which is approximately 100,000 square feet larger than the current store, will offer customers the convenience of one-stop shopping, picking up groceries and other goods at the same place, Randall said.
In addition to housing all the same departments and services as the current Wal-Mart store, the Supercenter will include a one-hour photo shop, a Bank Midwest branch, a vision center and hair care salon. The store will also be open 24 hours a day.
Since the store's hours will be greatly expanded, Wal-Mart officials have been working for the past few months to hire the additional employees needed to staff the Supercenter. It will employ approximately 300 people.
