Council interviews city candidates
The Basehor City Council met in executive session Tuesday night to conduct telephone interviews with five candidates for the city administrator position.
The candidates hail from Kansas, Missouri, Oklahoma and Wisconsin, Basehor mayor Joseph Scherer said this week.
More than 50 professionals submitted their resumes to the city for consideration.
Representatives from the League of Kansas Municipalities, the organization the City Council hired to coordinate the search for a city administrator, whittled the list down to 10 candidates. Scherer said he added another three candidates to the list for City Council consideration.
On Friday, Dec. 12, the City Council trimmed the list of candidates down to five professionals, who were interviewed this week.
The interviews Tuesday night were the first round only, the mayor said. In person meetings will most likely take place this week and next, Scherer said.
A final decision to hire one of the five candidates to become the first city administrator in Basehor history will most likely occur at the beginning of the new year, Scherer said.
The City Council has earmarked $65,000 in its 2004 budget for the city administrator position.
