Talks on Post Office pending
The number of sites for a potential new Basehor Post Office has been whittled down to four, Basehor Mayor Joseph Scherer said this week.
The U.S. Postal Service has used the same downtown facility to sort, ship and house Basehor's mail since 1963. With a growing population, the 1,000-square-foot facility is no longer adequate to handle an increase in mail volume, postal service officials say.
Recently, postal service officials informed the city that the sites for a possible new facility were under review. Thus far, the four sites are undisclosed.
Scherer said the postal service and the city would meet "in the very near future," to discuss relocation of the post office.
Discussions between the two sides have been limited so far, but both sides say cooperation is necessary to determine the best postal site for the community.
