Zoning appeals board meets for the 1st time
The revamped Basehor Board of Zoning Appeals will meet for the first time Jan. 6 for an organizational meeting.
The Board of Zoning Appeals consists of five members, who will meet when decisions made by the Basehor Planning Commission are appealed. The board formerly consisted of in-city Planning Commission members.
In recent months, city officials restructured the Board of Zoning Appeals, separating Planning Commission members from the new board. Four new members were appointed and they are Ty Garver, Leslie Bishop, Bill Robison and Jeff Scherer.
At the recommendation of Basehor mayor Joseph Scherer, the Basehor City Council appointed a fifth member, David Roe, during a special meeting Monday, Dec. 22.
The City Council approved Roe's appointment, 3-1, with Bill Hooker the lone vote of opposition.
Scherer said Roe showed interest in the position.
"He's lived here long enough to care," Scherer said.
"He was interested and he's going to be honest," the mayor added. "He's going to try and do things the right way."
On Jan. 6, the five members will elect a chairperson and vice-chairperson. The members will also review their duties, said Mike Hooper, Basehor city codes administrator.
