Obit: School bond is not ‘For Kids’

February 19, 2003

To the Editor:

I am sick and tired of these signs asking us to vote "For Kids." This bloated school bond has very little to do with our children. It's mostly so that the bond company and developers and contractors can get rich and architectural firms can get paid big money for weird designs. The principal of the middle school said "the kids love coming to school here." All the kids I ever talked to say the same thing. If they love their school, its because of the teachers and the atmosphere not the newness or fanciness of the building.

Did anybody notice that these signs don't have a date on them? The bond company probably has a warehouse full of them for use all over the United States. We are being conned.
