City Council meetings moved to Monday
New incoming Basehor City Council members would be well advised to clear their Monday nights for the next four years.
During its meeting Monday, March 17, Basehor City Council members approved adding a second monthly meeting and a "standardized" monthly work session.
"Monday's will just have to become city days," said Basehor mayor Joseph Scherer.
The new meeting schedule will become effective in May, a month after new City Council members take office. The City Council meetings will take place on the second and fourth Monday's of the month.
Currently, the City Council meets the third Monday of every month. That date will be used for a work session, city officials said.
However, city officials said too many items are being put before them for consideration and that a second meeting is needed to carefully consider each of them.
"We're growing and we're getting a lot on our plate," Scherer said.
At least two new people will be added to the City Council and possibly a third following the general election April 1.
The seats held by Chris Garcia, Burl Gratny and Joe Odle are up for grabs.
Only Odle is seeking an additional term. There are currently six candidates (see info box on page 1A) up for the three positions.
The monthly work session will be used to discuss future items of consideration. The new meetings will begin at 7 p.m. and are open to the public.
