Citations ordered for truck’s driver
Citations are being processed for the owner of a vehicle involved in an accident that claimed the life of a Basehor man, said Maj. Dave Zoellner of the Leavenworth County Sheriff's Department.
Kevin Swope, 22, Basehor, died as a result of an accident that happened at approximately 9:20 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 8. Authorities said Swope was driving west on Kansas Highway 32. As he attempted to turn left onto 166th Street, an oncoming eastbound truck struck Swope's car.
Swope died the following day.
The driver of the truck that struck Swope's vehicle fled; police searched the area around the accident but could not locate the driver.
This week, citations for driving with a suspended license and leaving the scene of injury accident were being prepared for the registered owner of the truck involved in the accident.
Zoellner declined to disclose the name of the vehicle's registered owner.
A court appearance has been scheduled for 8:30 a.m. Wednesday, Nov. 26 in Leavenworth County District Court for the owner of the vehicle.
An exact cause of the accident is unknown and an investigation is on-going.
Swope, a Basehor native, was a 2000 graduate of Basehor-Linwood High School and an employee of Bonner Springs Ford.
