The Basehor Veterans of Foreign Wars organization, post 11499, has nominated a long-time Basehor-Linwood High School teacher for a national award.
Art Wells, a science teacher at BLHS for the past 35 years, is the local recipient of the National Citizenship Education Teacher Award in the high school division.

"Many times he has donated time, his energy and his money to improve the educational opportunities for our children," Scharnhorst wrote in his nomination letter. "He has done this selflessly and seldom is properly rewarded for his extra work and caring."
Wells' nomination will be forwarded to the VFW District 1 competition. The teacher will be honored locally at a dinner and presentation Thursday, Dec. 18 at the VFW hall in Basehor.
