Zoning appeals board to meet for last time
The Basehor Board of Zoning Appeals will meet for perhaps the final time Tuesday, Dec. 2 under its current format.
The Board of Zoning Appeals will meet at 6 p.m. Tuesday night to decide on a request for a variance submitted by the Fairmount Township Fire Department.
The fire department is considering an expansion of its current facility located in downtown Basehor and is asking for a variance for the rear-yard setback, said Mike Hooper, Basehor city codes administrator.
Under expansion plans, the fire station would sit three feet off the west property line; under Basehor zoning guidelines, the setback requirement is 25 feet, Hooper said.
Currently, members of the Basehor Planning Commission residing in the city serve dual roles as the five-member Board of Zoning Appeals. Next year, however, the board is scheduled to be reorganized.
Earlier this month, the Basehor City Council approved the appointments of four new members to the Board of Zoning Appeals, members who are not part of the Planning Commission.
The new members are Ty Garver, Leslie Bishop, Bill Robison and Jeff Scherer. City officials are still searching for someone to fill the fifth position.
The new Board of Zoning Appeals members will assume their new posts at the beginning of 2004.
