Thousands of books offered in library sale
There's one thing in common between a bin at Sterly's Storage facility in Basehor and a back room of the Basehor Community Library -- they're both packed to the roof with used books.
There is no telling just how many used books will be available to area readers this week during a Basehor Community Library book sale. Carla Kaiser, community library director, said there is no estimate for how many books must go this week.
"It's definitely in the thousands, though," Kaiser said.
The used books, procured from either donations to the library or from the library's circulation, include fiction, non-fiction, hardbacks and paperbacks and are priced from 10 cents to $1. Three paperbacks can also be purchased for $1 and a hardback for $1.
The Friends of the Basehor Community Library are sponsoring this week's book sale, and proceeds will go to the organization.
The Friends group will host a preview sale from 4 to 8 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 2 at the Pebblebrooke Community Room, 15541 Willow Drive in Basehor. The preview sale is for Friends members only, but anyone who is not a member can sign up and become a member Thursday, Kaiser said.
As a thank you for hosting the book sale, Pebblebrooke residents may attend the preview sale, Friends of the Library members said.
The public is invited to attend the other days of the sale beginning Friday, Oct. 3 and running through Sunday, Oct. 5. On Friday and Saturday, the sale will begin at 9 a.m. and end at 5 p.m.
On Sunday, all books must go; from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. it's "Fill a Bag for a Buck" day, librarians said.
