Bonner Springs woman charged with infant’s murder
Prosecutors charged Stephanie Thomas, a 31-year-old Bonner Springs woman, with first degree murder and child abuse Wednesday afternoon in Wyandotte County District Court.
She is being held in Wyandotte County Jail. A judge set her bond at $10,000.
Thomas is charged in connection with the death of her 10-week old daughter, Avalon Thomas.
Lt. George Collins of the Bonner Springs Police Department said police responded to a 911 emergency call at the Thomas home in the 100 block of Emerson at 8:48 a.m. Monday morning. There, police found Avalon dead.
An autopsy later that day revealed the infant had a skull fracture and head trauma. The cause of death was not natural, Collins said.
Thomas' husband was out of town at the time of alleged murder and is not a suspect, police said. The couple's other child, a two-year-old, is now in the father's custody.
