Many candidates for job
It appears Basehor city officials will have plenty of candidates to select from when choosing a new police chief.
The city has received approximately 15 applications from law enforcement officers interested in assuming the position as Basehor's police chief.
The city has gotten resumes from candidates from across the country, city administrator David Fuqua said, a mild surprise as city officials thought most candidates would be from Kansas or Missouri.
Vince Weston, the city's police chief for 15 years, retired from the position in March. Sgt. Martin Cigich has served as interim police chief in his stead.
The city will accept applications until June 1, Fuqua said.
City officials will begin the process of narrowing the field of candidates and scheduling interviews after that deadline. There is no timetable for hiring a replacement, he added.
