LMS wrestlers end on high note

Lansing Middle School wrestlers closed out their season with a strong showing against Levenworth West and Warren Middle School.

Eight Lions went undefeated while eight more lost just one match.

Cullen Demarest, Gage Thackston, Jacob Hansen, Daniel Matthews, Wesley Appleget and Sean Gowdy posted 2-0 marks while Paul Rogers and Andrew Shafer went 1-0. Josh Martin was the only LMS wrestler to compete in three matches, and he finished with a 2-1 mark. A.J. Kim, Travis Grogan, Tyler Bodde, Tyler Gates and Shawn McDaniel all posted 1-1 records.

Other LMS competitors were Nick Bell and Ricky Walter.

JV wrestling opens at Basehor Festival

Five Lansing High junior varsity wrestlers earned perfect records as the Lions opened their season last Friday at the Basehor Festival.

Scott Keller (112 pounds), Eric Wessel (140), Jeff Terrill (145), Corey Anderson (145) and Brad Terron (189) posted 2-0 marks. Dennis Abernathy went 1-1. The JV Lions next compete at 5:30 p.m. Wednesday at Bishop Ward.

Boys basketball starts this week

Lansing Middle School boys' basketball teams will begin practice next week. Practice begins Monday with the eighth-grade boys going from 6:15 a.m. to 7:45 a.m. and the seventh-grade boys from 3:30 p.m. to 5 p.m.
