Close losses have freshmen girls on the verge
Lansing High's freshman girls' basketball team is off to a 1-3 start, but the Lions are oh-so-close to being 3-1.
The lone victory of the year was a 36-19 thrashing of Patton last weekend at the Patton Tournament, but five-point losses to Bonner Springs (39-34) and Leavenworth (35-30) have the Lions believing they're doing plenty of things right, coach Troy Andrews said. Takeisha Jenkins led LHS with a 12-point average during the three-game tournament and Christine Cordes averaged eight points per game.
The Lions lost to Basehor-Linwood, 62-40, on Tuesday night for their only lopsided loss of the year. Jenkins led LHS with 11 points against the Bobcats while Lauren Eilkens addes seven points.
The Lansing freshman girls' squad next plays Friday at home against Mill Valley. Then it will be off for two weeks for the holiday break.
