Planning Commission chairman steps down
Basehor Planning Commission chairman Ron Owen resigned from his post Tuesday, Feb. 3 during the board's monthly meeting.
Owen, who has been a member of the Planning Commission for the past eight years, cited family health reasons for his resignation.
Owen was appointed to the Planning Commission in 1996. His term expires in May.
Mike Hooper, Basehor city codes administrator, said Planning Commission vice-chairman John Matthews will succeed Owen as chairman.
The resignation also creates a vacancy on the seven-member Planning Commission.
Hooper said the vacancy will be filled by appointment but as of press time, there are no candidates to replace Owen. There is no timetable scheduled to fill the vacancy.
Anyone interested in filling the vacancy should contact Basehor city officials at (913) 724-1370 for more information.
Owen's resignation wasn't the only change in the Planning Commission's structure discussed Tuesday night.
City officials introduced Angela Solberg, a new employee in the planning and zoning department, to Planning Commission members during their meeting.
The city hired Solberg, who has four years experience, as a planning and zoning inspector. She assumed the post Monday.
Part of her responsibilities will be to staff the Planning Commission meetings, Hooper said.
