County 2 project to start
Alternative routes will be necessary with July 19 start
Travelers of Leavenworth County Road 2 and residents of Cedar Lakes will have to find a new route to travel beginning July 19.
On that day, Miles Construction will begin a roughly 90-day project that will affect County Road 2 from State Avenue south to Evans Road, said Gary Ditty, Leavenworth County public works director and county engineer. During the construction, traffic that normally accesses the Cedar Lakes subdivision near Evans road will be directed to a detour through the Pinehurst subdivision through a temporary road through Briarwood Estates.
Throughout the construction, Ditty said there will be some access to the church and the homes that fall within the construction zone.
"We want to let members of the church and residents that live along County Road 2 know that we will maintain some access through the construction," Ditty said Wednesday. "But, we would like to keep it limited."
The Kansas Department of Transportation and the county will fund the project affecting County Road 2, which becomes 158th Street closer to Basehor. Additional federal funds will also be utilized and the city of Basehor will contribute its share for a right-turn lane at State Avenue near the new bank, Ditty said.
The temporary road and detour to Pinehurst was established because of construction of a roundabout on 155th Street, Ditty said.
