Citywide garage sale provides economic benefit
Organizers of the annual Citywide Garage Sale are hoping that Saturday will bring sunny weather, a few dollars and some extra visitors into Basehor.
This year's event, which will again be sponsored by Basehor PRIDE, will run from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. June 5 in and around the VFW building and at private sales at addresses throughout the city. PRIDE spokesman Chuck Wilderson said the event will benefit the community in a variety of ways.
"A lot of people from outside our community have gotten used to coming through Basehor on that first Saturday in June," he said. "It is good publicity for the city and a lot of those people stop and buy lunch and gas here in town."
Funds raised from the VFW's chuckwagon sales, as well as some funds from the main sale location this year will benefit the Basehor Historic Society and its many planned projects.
"The VFW has been a very strong supporter of ours," said Carla Crawford, an administrative assistant for the historic society. "We made some pretty good money last year so let's hope a lot of hungry people show up again."
Wilderson said PRIDE members will publicize the event this week by placing signs at city hall and answering any questions members of the community may have.
Anyone interested in donating items to the sale or finding our more about it may contact City Clerk Mary Ann Mogle at (913) 724-1370.
