Girl pleads in BLHS bomb threat

March 4, 2004

One of two girls charged in connection with a bomb threat at Basehor-Linwood High School pleaded guilty to a charge of disorderly conduct.

The girl, 15, will be sentenced during a hearing at 10 a.m. April 6 in Leavenworth County Juvenile Court.

She and another student, 15, allegedly threatened to blow up the high school building on Nov. 11.

School district officials evacuated the 500 members of the student body from the four-year high school and searched the building, but found no explosives. Students were allowed to return to the building about three hours later.

The threat was written in a note that was discovered by another student and given to school administrators. The note said, "This school shall blow up at 1:31 p.m. today, November 11, 2003."

Both of the girls originally were charged with aggravated criminal threat, and a trial for the other girl is still scheduled for next Tuesday on that charge.

The girls, one a freshman and the other a sophomore at the time of the incident, were suspended from school for a full year, meaning they will not be eligible for reinstatement until November 2004.
