Shopping center tenants could be announced in March
Restaurant construction underway at Village West in Wyandotte County
Representatives of the Legends of Village West retail center could announce some tenants for the large shopping district at the end of March, said Don Denney, Unified Government of Wyandotte County spokesman.
Legends of the Village West is a planned 804,000-square-foot shopping district currently under construction in Kansas City, Kan. It is located inside the 400-acre Village West tourism district in western Wyandotte County, the same area housing Nebraska Furniture Mart, Cabela's and the Kansas Speedway, the top tourist attractions in the state.
This week, Denney said RED development, the company developing the shopping area, could announce this month some "significant," retail carriers locating to Legends of Village West.
A formal announcement date has not yet been scheduled.
When RED development announced its Kansas City, Kan., project in 2003, officials said finalizing repeat deals with businesses at existing RED shopping centers across the country was a top priority. Some of those tenants at other RED development shopping districts include Abercrombie and Fitch, Barnes and Noble, Best Buy, Dick's Sporting Goods and SuperTarget.
Legends of Village West is currently under construction and is set for a spring 2005 grand opening. It will be built as an open-air shopping district, distinguishing itself from enclosed mall shopping centers.
One tenant of Legends of Village West is already known. In January, the Unified Government Board of Commissioners approved a deal pairing Unified Government with Phoenix Theaters LLC, to build and operate a destination movie theater complex inside the shopping district.
When completed, the 65,000-square-foot complex will offer 16 screens and seat approximately 3,000 patrons. It is scheduled for screenings no later than May 2005.
Activity at Legends isn't the only movement inside Village West.
A Bob Evans restaurant, located between Applebee's and Longhorn's Steakhouse, is under construction, as is W.J. McBride's Irish Pub.
Also, Arthur Bryant's Barbecue is under construction and set to open its doors to customers in May. A Sonic drive-in is nearly completed and should open this month.
