Flu vaccine clinic scheduled in Easton
Flu vaccinations will be given by the Leavenworth County Health Department from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. Friday at St. Lawrence Church, 211 W. Riley, Easton.
This is the final flu vaccine clinic scheduled this year - unless the department receives additional doses of the vaccine, which is in short supply.
Kansas Department of Health and Environment has announced that it expects to receive 75,360 doses of flu vaccine from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention from mid-November to mid-January.
And it's possible that Leavenworth County could receive some of those doses.
"We may get some," said Sylvia Burns, Leavenworth County Health Department director. "It's hard to tell."
She currently is contacting area hospitals and other health-care related groups to determine what their needs are for additional vaccine.
"We are just now in the process of getting information," Burns said Tuesday.
Burns said that only people who are in these priority groups will be given vaccine at this clinic:
¢ All children who are between 6 months and 23 months old. Children who are 3 and younger require a doctor's note.
¢ Adults who are 65 years and older.
¢ People between the ages of 2 and 64 with chronic medical conditions.
¢ All women who will be pregnant during the influenza season.
¢ Residents of nursing homes and long-term care facilities.
¢ Children between the ages of ages of 6 months and 18 years who are on long-term aspirin therapy.
¢ Health-care workers involved in direct patient care.
¢ People who have contact with anyone in a high-risk group, including parents or other people who have close contact with children who are 6 to 23 months or with senior citizens.
