Village West changes planning picture
A major flaw in the current draft of the Basehor comprehensive plan is that it does not take into account growth occurring in western Wyandotte County. The plan last received a revision in 1996, before major development at the Village West tourism and entertainment district began.
The area draws millions of visitors each year to its major tourist destinations such as the Kansas Speedway, Cabela's and Great Wolf Lodge, all located just a few miles east of Basehor.
The comprehensive plan Basehor city officials will begin revising in coming weeks will entail more than just factoring in the current climate at the ever-changing Village West. In October, developers announced that agreements had been met with 44 new tenants that will be located inside a 750,000-square-foot shopping center.
The 44 new tenants will comprise just 35 percent of the stores and restaurants that will be housed inside the shopping area.
