Loose dog bites baby
An 18-month-old girl suffered cuts and bruises to her face after she was bitten by a neighbor's dog Friday in the 18200 block of 174th Street.
Young girl was admitted to Children's Mercy Hospital and received as man as 30 stitches to her face, said Ann Magee, a spokesperson for the Leavenworth County Sheriff's Office.
Magee said it appeared the young girl was playing with a neighbor's dog, a medium-sized border collie, when it attacked. Magee said no one witnessed the attack and it is unclear why the dog attacked the girl.
Leavenworth County officials are quarantining the animal for the required 10-day period. If officials do not find the dog to be vicious or a carrier of disease, then it may be released to its owner. Magee said the dog was running loose at the time of the accident, but since there are no leash laws, charges will not likely be filed against the owner.
