Planning commission OK’s Highpoint Downs, 440-home subdivision
The Basehor Planning Commission April 5 approved a rezoning request for Highpoint Downs, a proposed 440-home subdivision, converting 191 acres of the development from rural to single-family residential.
Highpoint Downs is located at the southeast corner of 155th Street and Donahoo Road and includes approximately 204 acres total. Planning Commission members approved the rezoning, 4-2, with George Smith and Jason Logsdon voting against approval.
While the Planning Commission approved Highpoint Downs' rezoning, members tabled action on the development's preliminary plat, 4-2. Smith and Planning Commission chairman John Matthews approved tabling the issue until the board's May meeting.
Just 10 acres of Highpoint Downs is located within city limits. The remaining acreage will be considered for annexation, city officials said.
In other action, the Planning Commission:
- Approved, 6-0, the final plat for one lot of the Wolf Creek Industrial Park, located at the southeast corner of 150th and U.S. Highway 24/40. The lot approved encompasses 16.5 acres of land and is zoned for general business uses.
- Approved, 5-1, the preliminary development plan and preliminary plat for Tomahawk Valley, a proposed residential development. Although approved, the item will be sent back to the Basehor City Council for review.
- Tabled, at the request of developers, consideration of the final plat for Falcon Lakes third plat. The item will be discussed during the Planning Commission's May meeting.
- Approved, 6-0, the final plat for Hollingsworth Estates, an 11-acre development, that will include 69 units of town homes. City planner Angela Solberg said a stipulation of the approval is that developers must make improvements to Hollingsworth Road before townhomes are occupied.
