LHS team collects phones for funds
Lansing residents who have broken or outdated cell phones now can dispose of the unwanted phone and help the Lansing High girls' basketball program at the same time.
LHS junior Rachel Darrow is heading up the project in which the Lions will collect old cell phones to raise money for their program. The drive is sponsored by EcoPhones, of Addison, Texas. LHS players will collect the phones and ship them to EcoPhones, which then will recycle or refurbish the phones rather than having them dumped in a landfill.
According to its Web site, ecophones.com, the company will pay anywhere from $3 to $200 per phone, depending on the model.
Proceeds will go to the team's fund for purchasing new practice equipment, LHS coach Keith Andrews said.
