Anna S. Gilfert
Services for Anna S. Gilfert, 94, Leavenworth, will be held at 10 a.m. Friday, Aug. 12, at Barnett-Larkin-Brown Funeral Home in Leavenworth. Burial will follow at Mt. Calvary Cemetary.
Mrs. Gilfert died Wednesday, Aug. 10, 2005, at Broadway Heights Nursing Home.
She was born Dec. 10, 1910, in Philadelphia, the daughter of Peter and Elizabeth (Wedecki) Schwartz.
Mrs. Gilfert worked for the Leavenworth School District while her children were attending school. Before she married, she was a Harvey Girl. Mrs. Gilfert was a member of St. Casimir Catholic Church and American Legion Auxiliary and a past member of the River Community Center Senior Citizens and the Happy Face Club.
She married James P. VanVeghten on May 10, 1933, in Leavenworth. He died Feb. 23, 1963. She married Paul Gilfert on May 16, 1964, in Miami, Okla. He died Oct. 23, 1966.
Mrs. Gilfert is survived by son James P. VanVeghten, Miami, Okla.; daughters Anna Marie Leeper and Dorothy L. Hulsey, both of Leavenworth; sisters Theresa Bauer, Leavenworth, Mary Ellen Wranich, Lansing, and Martha Atchley, Aurora, Colo.; brothers James Schwartz, Littleton, Colo.; 13 grandchildren, 21 great-grandchilren and one great-great-grandchild.
Friends may visit Friday from 9 a.m. to 10 a.m. at the funeral home, 707 W. Sixth St. A rosary will be said at 9:30 a.m.
The family suggests memorials to the Country Care on Broadway Activity Fund in care of the funeral home.
