I-70 traffic stop turns into drug bust
Bonner Springs Police discovered about a half-pound of marijuana in a passenger vehicle while making a traffic stop Tuesday on Interstate 70.
Police pulled over Mark Bailey, a 30-year-old Topeka man, about 1 p.m. Tuesday for a traffic violation along I-70 about one mile west of Kansas Highway 7. During the stop the officer discovered a large amount of marijuana and other officers from the Bonner Springs Police Department and a Kansas City Kan., K-9 officer and drug-sniffing dog responded to the scene.
Bailey and one of his passengers, Stephanie Bradley of Leavenworth, were arrested at the scene and taken to the Wyandotte County Detention Center.
Police said Bailey was charged yesterday in Bonner Springs Municipal Court with possession of a controlled substance. Bradley, the man's female passenger, was charged with obstruction of justice for interfering with the officers attempting to search the vehicle.
