Linwood mayor enters not guilty to Lansing charges
September trial date scheduled in Lansing Municipal Court
Linwood mayor Steve Campbell entered a not guilty plea to criminal charges Wednesday morning in Lansing Municipal Court.
Campbell is charged with driving under the influence and attempting to ellude police. The charges stem from a July 2 incident in Lansing when Campbell allegedly attempted to avoid a traffic stop by local police.
Wednesday morning, he appeared with his attorney and entered his plea.
A trial date has been scheduled for Wednesday, Sept. 14.
According to Lansing police, Campbell was driving his 2003 Harley Davidson motorcycle at approximately 10:30 p.m. July 2. A police officer stopped Campbell near the intersection of Kansas Highway 7 and Highland Street.
He was later booked into Leavenworth County Jail.
Campbell, owner of Fro's Hideout, a local watering hole, was elected mayor in April.
Campbell, 29, won via a write-in candidacy and is thought to be one of the youngest mayors in the state.
