Couple of ‘Cats named all-state
Austin Knipp and Zach Lowe received some of the highest honors a Kansas high school soccer player can get last week.
Knipp, a junior at Basehor-Linwood High School, earned first-team all-state honors as an offensive player. Lowe, a senior at BLHS, was named to the all-state second team. It was the first time in school history that two soccer players made the all-state squad.
Knipp scored 23 goals on the season, and was easily the Bobcats' first option offensively. He has led the team in scoring in each of his three seasons and owns BLHS' career goals record by a wide margin.
As much as Knipp meant to the Bobcats offensively, Lowe may have meant more to the team as a whole this year. Not only did he make plenty of diving saves covering for a young defense, but his booming free kicks also keyed many of Basehor-Linwood's scoring surges.
Lowe and Knipp are both currently shopping their soccer skills to prospective colleges and have an excellent chance of playing at the next level soon.
