Churches set Christmas services

This year, with Christmas Day and New Year's Day both falling on Sundays, the regular schedule of Sunday services for churches in Lansing will change as churches celebrate the birth of Jesus and welcome the New Year.

Wallula Christian Church, 23785 139th St., will conduct two Christmas Eve services, at 5:15 p.m. and 6:30 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 24. Its Christmas Day service on Sunday, Dec. 25, will be at 10:30 a.m. On Sunday, Jan. 1, New Year's Day, the church will host a continental breakfast at 10 a.m., followed by a single worship service at 10:30 a.m., rather than the usual two services.

St. Francis de Sales Catholic Church, 900 Ida St., will present its children's program at 4:40 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 24. Christmas Eve Masses are 5 p.m. and 7 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 24. The church will observe the traditional Midnight Mass at 12 a.m. Sunday, Dec. 25, and a Christmas mass at 9 a.m. Sunday, Dec. 25. On New Year's Day, the church will have its regular Sunday services at 8 a.m. and 10:15 a.m.

Apostolic Deliverance Tabernacle, 116 E. Kay St., will begin its Christmas celebrations today, Dec. 22, with a card exchange at 6:30 p.m. The Christmas Day service is at 10:15 a.m. Sunday, Dec. 25, instead of the regular 11 a.m. Sunday service, and will include a children's program. There will be no services on Christmas Eve. The church will celebrate the New Year with a service 9 p.m. on New Year's Eve, Saturday, Dec. 31, which will be followed by breakfast shortly after midnight.

Lansing United Methodist Church, 107 E. Kay St., will observe "A Candlelight Christmas Eve" at 7 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 24. On Christmas Eve, some church members will deliver Meals on Wheels while others will deliver cookies to people working in the evening. On Christmas Day, Sunday, Dec. 25, the church will assemble at 11 a.m. for a single worship service, rather than the usual two services. There will also be one service on New Year's Day, Sunday, Jan. 1, when the church meets at 11 a.m. to celebrate Epiphany Sunday. After the service, children and adults will share an Epiphany cake that has a prize buried inside.

Lansing First Southern Baptist Church, 306 4-H Road, will conduct a Christmas Eve Service at 5:30 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 24. Christmas Day service at the church will be at 10:30 a.m. Sunday, Dec. 25.
