Police investigate gunshots at Basehor business

February 3, 2005

Basehor police are seeking the public's help in finding the person responsible for allegedly firing several gunshots at a local business.

"It's a serious deal," Basehor police chief Terry Horner said. "Whoever did this malicious act wasn't using their heads. There were people inside. It could have been a serious tragedy."

Police responded to the scene of a business in the 15400 block of Parallel Road Wednesday, Jan. 19, after a witness reported hearing semi-automatic gunfire in the neighborhood.

Horner said the remnants from several bullets were found inside and outside of the business, but there were no injuries reported.

"Five rounds had been shot, and they hit various items on the property," he said. "The damage done was pretty extensive."

Two of the bullets were recovered from the scene, and police believe the rounds may have been fired from an AK-47 assault rifle. As of now, no arrests have been made in the case and police are looking for help from the public in apprehending the shooter, Horner said.

Anyone with information regarding the case should contact Basehor police at (913) 724-1370. Callers may remain anonymous if they wish.
