A gathering of friends for Charlotte Lucille Davis, 79, Lansing, will be from 6 p.m. to 7 p.m. today, Feb. 17, at R. L. Leintz Funeral Home, Leavenworth. Inurnment will be in Memorial Lawn Cemetery, Emporia.

Miss Davis died Monday, Feb. 14, 2005, at St. John Hospital, Leavenworth.

She was born June 4, 1925, in Emporia, the daughter of William H. and Sadie (Shoop) Davis. She graduated from Emporia High School in 1943 and from Newman Memorial Hospital School of Nursing in Emporia in 1946. She earned a master's degree in nursing in 1966 from Washington University in St. Louis.

Miss Davis had a long career in professional nursing with the Department of Veterans Affairs, beginning in 1947 at the Topeka VA Hospital, where she was a psychiatric staff nurse. She worked in psychiatry from 1954-1964 at the Kansas City VA Hospital. She was assistant chief nurse from 1966-1970 at the VA Hospital in Knoxville, Tenn., from 1970 to 1976 at the VA Hospital in Saginaw, Mich., and from 1976 to 1983 at the VA Hospital in Leavenworth.

She was an active member of American Nurses Association during her working years. She was a member and officer of American Association of University Women, participated in the Leavenworth VA Nurses Club and was a member of First United Methodist Church, Emporia. She enjoyed traveling to many parts of the world, including Europe, China and Latin America.

There are no immediate survivors.
