Accident leads to drug charges
A Leavenworth man faces drug-related charges after an accident early Sunday evening.
Lansing Police Chief Steve Wayman said an officer on patrol about 5:45 p.m. Sunday heard the sound of screeching tires coming from the western end of West Mary Street.
When he arrived, he found a vehicle on the side of the street and a person walking nearby. The officer approached the pedestrian, who said the car was his and that he had just run off the road.
The driver then told the officer he had marijuana in his front pocket. In the vehicle, the officer found what is believed to be cocaine and crack cocaine.
The man, 43, was arrested and taken to Leavenworth County Jail to await charges, including driving under the influence of drugs or alcohol, possession of marijuana with intent to sell and possession of cocaine with intent to sell.
