2 members join school board
With two new members on board, the Basehor-Linwood school board dedicated the first half of its meeting Monday night to re-organizing for the 2005-06 school year.
Gary Johnson and Randy Cunningham took office Monday night. They replace former board members Chris Claflin and Mike Laffere, respectively.
School board president Kerry Mueller welcomed the new members.
"It's going to be a pleasure serving with you," she said.
Board members then welcomed Mueller to another term as board president. She was approved by unanimous vote. Board member Patrick Jeannin was also approved by unanimous consent as board vice president.
In other action, the board unanimously:
¢ Designated the Basehor Sentinel and Leavenworth Times as official newspapers.
¢ Approved First State Bank and Trust in Basehor as the official depository.
¢ Approved board meeting dates, times and locations for next school year.
¢ Appointed director of business operations Don Swartz as freedom of information officer and suspension/expulsion hearing officer for the school district.
¢ Appointed the law firm of Lathrop and Gage as school district legal counsel.
¢ Appointed Superintendent Jill Hackett as the district's authorized legal representative.
¢ Appointed Mueller as board representative for the Basehor-Linwood Education Foundation.
¢ Adopted a 1,116-hour calendar for next school year.
