Housekeeper enjoys people
Crystal Bromell has never met a celebrity, but she's had plenty of close calls.
Lansing isn't a celebrity hotbed by any stretch of the imagination, but Bromell explained that had she worked on a particular day, here or there, she would have met a handful of famous people while working at Holiday Inn Express as a housekeeper.
"My friends have met that famous wrestler Goldberg," she said. "Neil McCoy, the country singer, was here a few years ago and so were the Stone Temple Pilots when they were still together. I even heard *NSYNC was here once, but I'm not sure if that one's true."
Although the 1999 Leavenworth High graduate hasn't yet rubbed elbows with the rich and famous, she meets new people every day. She said it's what she enjoys most about her job.
"There are days I can't stand my job, but other days it's fun," she said. "I stay because of the people I meet and people I work with."
Bromell said her job gets tough on weekends or when wedding parties are scheduled at the hotel, but after working there for so long she's gotten used to it.
She said it normally never gets too hectic, because most people come to Lansing to visit family.
The busiest parts of the year are during the spring and summer, and when the NASCAR races are at the Kansas Speedway, she said.

HOW LONG HAVE YOU WORKED IN LANSING AND WHAT BROUGHT YOU HERE?
My dad has always worked for Hallmark Cards, so I've lived here my entire my life. I've worked at the Holiday Inn Express for five years.
WHAT DO YOU LIKE MOST ABOUT LANSING? It's peaceful. I like it because it's quiet and I live in a nice neighborhood. I'm pretty paranoid though, so I always lock the door when I'm home alone.
WHAT DO YOU DO TO RELAX? Go on a walk or listen to my CD player. I enjoy all kinds of music. I guess I also talk to my friends and family.
WHAT WOULD SURPRISE PEOPLE ABOUT YOU? I'm really quiet. Once I get to know people they all think I'm pretty goofy, but it takes me a while to get that way some times.
WHAT'S THE BEST ADVICE YOU EVER RECEIVED? Always try something once. Then, if you don't like it that will be the first and last time you ever do it.
