Blakley, Mowery power Cavalry past Ozawkie
Pair of two-run homers lead Lansing to fifth straight win
Ozawkie After having their last two scheduled doubleheaders rained out, the Lansing Cavalry returned to action Wednesday night with a road trip to Ozawkie.
Rather than playing two seven-inning games, Lansing and Ozawkie squared off in one nine-inning contest.
The Cavalry received five strong innings on the mound from Mike Amaral. Then Cody Mohan, Jeff Terrill and Conn Blakley gave solid efforts in relief as the Cavalry won 6-4.
The game was knotted at 2-2 early in the contest when a two-run homer by Blakley put Lansing back on top. Shortly thereafter, Matt Mowery followed with another two-run blast that put the Cavalry well in command.
With the victory, the Cavalry improved to 5-0 this season. They won't have any time to rest, either. They head to Lawrence Thursday where they'll open play in the Lawrence Tournament. The Cavalry will play the Lawrence Outlaws at noon at Free State High School, followed by a matchup with Olathe East at 5:30 p.m.
The Cavalry will play again at 10 a.m. Friday and 10 a.m. Saturday. After that, pairings will be set for Sunday's games.
