Free concert features area groups

June 23, 2005

Two performance groups are pooling their talents for a free concert this weekend at the Lansing Community Center.

Dancers with Ryanstrati & Co. and musical performers with Age and Play will perform from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m. Sunday at the Community Center, 800 First Terrace.

Ryanstrati is a dance company founded by Suzanne Ryan of Bonner Springs and is made up of dancers in and out of wheelchairs.

Age and Play is an effort begun by John Hopkins Jr., Leavenworth, that aims to teach music to seniors, children and people who are physically challenged. Hopkins, a jazz pianist, suffered a stroke in 1999 in Japan and can only play with his left hand.

"We try to give people a chance to have some quality entertainment to enjoy for free," Hopkins explained.
