Plowing new ground
To the editor:
The City Council of Lansing is annexing the citizens against annexation. The residents are upset because of the 30 percent tax increase. All they are getting is some police protection and a savings of $4 on trash pickup. It doesn't add up.
There is a saying that if the farmers are doing well, the country is doing well. If the farm ground is annexed, the farmers won't do well. I don't want our food to come from foreign countries because the farmers have been pushed away. Agriculture is the No. 1 industry in the world, so why is the city council pushing the farmers away with the annexation? When you push the farmers away, you push your dinner plates away.
I'm the third generation on our family farm and would hate to see it all in pavement and houses.
