Board approves curriculum revisions
The Basehor-Linwood School Board unanimously approved a revised curriculum during its meeting Monday night to better align it with state standards on assessment tests required under the No Child Left Behind Act.
School Board members voted 7-0 to approve the curriculum revisions to the last of the core areas that have been revised over recent years, physical education and health.
Last year, the school district revised curriculums for the math, science and communication arts departments; earlier this year, the social studies curriculum was upgraded. Next year, educators are scheduled to begin overhauling the curriculum for electives and fine arts.
School district officials said the No Child Left Behind act, a federal mandate, dictates that school districts continually revise and refine curriculums and tailor them to standards on the all important assessment tests. If schools do not meet annual yearly progress goals in consecutive years, they could possibly face sanctions that include a reduction in funding and ultimately, loss of accreditation.
