Historical society offers benefactors’ names etched in brick

May 19, 2005

Usually, it takes a great achievement to have one's name permanently etched in the annals of history. The Basehor Historical Society is offering that opportunity for $50.

That's the minimum cost the historical society is offering to area residents and businesses for a memorial brick, which will be placed at the Basehor brothers monument at the southwest corner of 158th Street and Parallel Road.

Carla Crawford, historical society spokesperson, said organization members have begun laying bricks around the monument erected in honor of city founders Reuben and Ephraim Basehor, and memorial bricks are still available for purchase.

Crawford said area residents may purchase memorial bricks that contain their own names, or those of friends, children or companies. For businesses, engraved logos are available. A 4 x 8 brick with three engraved lines costs $50 and an 8 x 8 brick with six lines will cost $75.

The deadline for ordering a brick is June 15.

In addition to the brickwork, Crawford said historical society members would also begin erecting two more flag poles at the monument in coming weeks. The flagpoles were purchased by local families.
