Council OKs library board appointments
Two Lansing Community Library board members have won reappointment to their posts through April 2009.
Karen Colstrom and Laura Barnes were recommended for four-year reappointments to the board, which oversees functions at the library, which is housed in the Lansing Activities Center. Colstrom is a day care provider and regular patron of the library; Barnes is a retired schoolteacher who volunteered at the library prior to her appointment to the board.
The council vote to approve their reappointment was 6-0.
Mayor Kenneth Bernard was out of town for Thursday's meeting, which was completed in less than 10 minutes. Council President Kenneth Ketchum presided. Council member Harland Russell was absent.
In other action Thursday, the council:
¢ Approved minutes from the May 5 council meeting.
¢ Heard Ketchum read a proclamation signed by Bernard urging residents to participate in the Veterans of Foreign Wars' Buddy Poppy sale. VFW members were to be out over the weekend selling the handmade flowers. All of the proceeds from the sale go to benefit programs for veterans with disabilities.
¢ Briefly discussed how to handle situations in which property owners allow trash and other items to collect in creeks on their property. John Young, public works director, said the city tries to work with the property owner before going in and cleaning it up.
