Memorial Day services slated

Military dignitaries and a United States senator are slated to speak at area ceremonies marking Memorial Day.

The Combined Arms Center and Fort Leavenworth salute battery and color guard will participate in Memorial Day ceremonies at both the Leavenworth National Cemetery and Fort Leavenworth National Ceme-tery on Monday, May 30.

The Leavenworth National Cemetery ceremony will begin at 9 a.m., and the ceremony at Fort Leavenworth National Cemetery will start at 11:40 a.m.

Members of the Lansing Veterans of Foreign Wars and American Legion posts will participate in the ceremonies at the Leavenworth National Ceme-tery, where the featured speaker is scheduled to be Col. Tom Johnson, chief of staff of the 35th Infantry Division headquartered at Fort Leavenworth.

U.S. Sen. Pat Roberts, R-Kan., is scheduled to be the featured speaker at the Fort Leavenworth ceremonies. Brig. Gen. John C. Woods, a deputy commander of the Combined Arms Center Training, also will speak at the Fort Leavenworth ceremony.

The ceremonies are open to the public.
