Follow the Lions at state track

— This weekend make lansingcurrent.com your home for state track. The Lansing High track team is sending 14 athletes to Cessna Stadium to compete in the Class 5A state meet and lansingcurrent.com will bring you the results. LANSING STATE TRACK AGENDA

Friday

3 p.m. - Girls' pole vault. Sara Eustice placed fourth with a vault of 9-foot-6. Erin Rogers and Melissa Poe recorded a no-height at 7-foot-6.

3 p.m. - Girls' javelin. Amanda Radovich logged her best throw of the season, 120-0, but missed finals by five inches.

3 p.m. - Girls' 100-meter hurdles prelims. Takeisha Jenkins advanced to the finals with the fifth-best time of the day, 15.58 seconds.

4:15 p.m. - Girls' 400-meter relay prelims. A bad handoff kept Natalie Groves, Takeisha Jenkins, Sara Eustice and Laura Abramovitz from advancing to finals. They placed ninth at state with a time of 52.35.

4:35 p.m. - Boys' 400-meter relay prelims. The relay team of Mike Griffin, Lance Fink, Jeff Slater and E.J. Corinealdi are the No. 8-seed heading into Saturday's finals. They placed second in their heat in a time of 44.46.

5:40 p.m. - Girls' 300-meter hurdles prelims. Takeisha Jenkins advanced to the finals with the third-best time of the day, 47.04.

6:35 p.m. - Girls' 200-meter prelims. Takeisha Jenkins missed finals but placed 10th in the state with a time of 26.72.

6:55 p.m. - Boys' 200-meter prelims. Jeff Slater placed 11th at state with a time of 23.01 and missed finals.

Saturday

8 a.m. - Girls' shot put. Lansing High senior Tiffany Turner set a personal record by 15 inches as she placed third at state in the shot put with a school-record throw of 39-2 3/4.

11:10 a.m. - Girls' 100-meter hurdles finals. LHS freshman Takeisha Jenkins placed fourth in a time of 15.55 - the second-fastest mark of her career behind the 15.5 that she ran at regionals.

3 p.m. - Boys' javelin. After setting a personal record with a throw of 161 feet, 4 inches at regionals last week, senior Neal Watson needed another PR to advance to finals. That didn't happen, though. His best throw was 149-7 and he placed 14th at state.

4:35 p.m. - Boys' 400-meter relay finals. The relay team of Mike Griffin, Lance Fink, Jeff Slater and E.J. Corinealdi did not finish the race. Slater tore his hamstring while running the third leg of the race and the squad was unable to finish. Ultimately LHS was eighth at state.

5:45 p.m. - Girls' 300-meter hurdles finals. LHS freshman Takeisha Jenkins placed second in the hurdles with a school-record time of 46.10. She was leading the race heading into the final hurdle but chopped her steps and slowed down. The winner ran a 46.03.

6:15 p.m. - Girls' 800-meter run. Sophomore Kara Ritchey placed 16th at state in the 800-meter run after advancing to the state meet with a personal-best time of 2:37 at regionals.
